SPDC Flare Gas Project

Convert a 500 kVa Caterpillar 3412 Diesel Standby Generator to Dual Fuel utilizing piped natural gas at Shell Petroleum Development Co. Warri facility.

Pilot Project to prove conceptual operation and potential for diesel cost [and environmental impact] reduction while utilizing flare gas for the existing diesel engine population supported by SPDC Nigeria

Goals (Set by SPDC):

a. Verification and authenticity of the Dual Fuel kit viability on installation and that it can actually reduce the consumption of diesel.

b. Verify the test kit operation on generator, its safety and reliability.

c. Verify actual reduction ratio of diesel and gas as compared to the diesel alone under load.

Results (Authenticated by SPDC):

Successful retrofit of Dual Fuel kit components carried out in two days of work while following Shell JHA and Work Site rules.

Dual Fuel operation proved on second day. Generator run on Dual Fuel supply, under load. All systems confirmed normal operation.

Dual fuel substitution result checked and verified by SPDC Conceptual Projects Team, and Exclaim Technical Team on third, full day, of testing.
